THE TRUTH BE DAMNED
As a juror in the "Whitey" Bulger trial, Janet Uhlar presents her story as fiction, a roman a clef--for many reasons. The trial changed her. It wasn’t Bulger’s criminality--that was anticipated. It was the corruption revealed within the DOJ and FBI, detailed in numerous testimonies. It was the deals given by the prosecution to key witnesses, whose combined body count equaled at least 50--and the souls and survivors of the 50, to which the Court showed little respect. It was the violation of Constitutional Rights and threat of contrived charges. It was the media, which failed to report accurately, choosing instead to further the story line from which many Boston “journalists” earned substantial gain. It was the realization that prosecutors can manipulate testimony through threats, agreements, and money--leaving no citizen safe. The Truth Be Damned is a fictionalized account of the trial of “Whitey” Bulger, and the aftermath which left Janet asking “What is truth?”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Janet Uhlar was born in Quincy, Massachusetts--the hometown of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John Hancock, and Josiah Quincy, Jr.
Janet served as a juror in the 2013 trial of mob boss, James (Whitey) J. Bulger. She has extensive knowledge of the foundational principles of American law and is the author of several books on the American Revolution. She believed Bulger's trial was in stark violation of these principles. Determined to discover the truth, she encountered corruption involving the FBI, DOJ, and CIA. Her communications with Bulger have revealed information never disclosed.
Through her works of biographical-fiction, she hopes to present the extraordinary stories of forgotten heroes of the American Revolution.
Janet firmly believes that when the private lives and unique personalities of historical figures are presented, and the dynamics between these characters brought out, history becomes much more than cold black print on a stark white page. History takes on a life of its own, with true flesh and blood individuals whose acts of courage, indifference, or cowardice shaped the world we live in today. This living history helps us relate to those who have gone before--offering inspiration, courage, and a sense of determination. She lives on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
